The water trespass from the county ditch that ends on / near our property is
flooding a section of our land. About three years ago the neighbors complained
of flooding at the north end of the road. The county solved the immediate
problem by digging out the driveway to our property, and constructed a ditch to
nowhere east along the thirty foot easement. It looks like they installed
a culvert under the power line track at the same time. The ditch ends at
the culvert under the power line track. From there the water covers an
adjoining section of our land four to six inches deep. We hope that since we are
trying to put the land to use they will solve the rest of the problem.
The only ideas that we have come up with for a solution is either to grade
the existing ditches so the water flows toward the south, or build a retentation
pond using the thirty foot right of way they have on either side of the
road. I will be giving them a call to see how we can solve the problem.
We had another bout of vandalism. The power line fence was cut in multiple
places and the no trespassing sign from the gate went for a swim. The
fence on the south west corner was also damaged and part of the no trespassing
signs removed. Both no trespassing signs from the north of the power line were
ripped down. The deputy sheriff came and made a report. They will be
stepping up there patrols of the area to see if they can catch the vandals.
Here is an aerial view of the property, north up, with the
ditch, culvert, and approximate wet area marked.
Water flowing across the driveway from the west ditch
Standing at the gate looking down the drive. It
probably needs some fill, but the land on either side is dry!
Looking south along Harney Heights Road from the west side
of the drive. The ditch was extended to this point. Our gate
is just to the left in the picture.
This is where water was flowing from the ditch into the
drive.

This is the input of the culvert on the power line track.
Here is the output. It is discharging the water on
our land
Just to the north of the culvert output looking east. This
is the blue wet area on the map.
Cindy is standing on the power line trail and pointing to
the output of the culvert.
Here is a picture from the east side of the wet area
looking west. Cindy is standing about where the previous picture was
taken. The fence is on the 30' easement, a foot or two off of our
property line.
Here is a panoramic shot from the same location.
The water is 4" - 6" deep here. The area
on the other side of the fence that is flooded is part of the 30'
easement.
Parts of the area are not flooded. The water does soak in
rather quickly once the flow stops
On the north side of the power line at the county trail we
found our fence and no trespassing sign vandalized. Sorry about the poor
picture.
The good news is the palmettos were not damaged ;) I don't know what
we would have done if they had vandalized them. We can repair fences,
only God can grow palmettos!
They cut the barbed wire, bent the post and even
cut off the turnbuckle.
The bottom of the bent post.
We guess they were having so much fun they cut the wire in
several places. This is from the north side looking south west
toward the gate.
Rather poor picture looking toward the north end

Looking toward the north at the missing section.
Here is the north side of the gate. Clip clip clip!

What cut barbed wire looks like ;)
The pin on the gate is missing
The wire on the south side is cut as well
The south post of the gate
Found a piece of plastic about 12' inside of the
gate. The light reflecting off of it caught my eye.
The no trespassing sign taking a swim.
Cindy has retrieved it - ready for remounting.
