We were out whacking away at the brush along the south property line.  We had about 300' of pretty hard going to get through on our way to the corner.  Now we have a string down the south line from the halfway point to the east corner.

We used our home made laser sighting contraption. You can see it in the third picture below  We spent $40 for a pair of red LED Lasers and attached them to a piece of scrap wood. We mounted that to the tripod and after some adjustment of the lasers at a shopping center to make sure that they were true we went out to mark the line. We found that by having two lasers we could aim one parallel to the string that we knew was correct and use a white target to find where the other one was pointing. We removed the brush so the laser would continue.  In the partial shade the laser spot was visible for about 250 foot on the white card, giving us a 500 foot working range.  At dusk the spot was easy to see for over 1000 foot allowing us to double check our work.   At 1000 foot the spot was almost a foot across but it is doing the job that we need. If we had to do a lot of this we would have gotten at least one of the green LED Lasers that is easier to see in the sunlight but the price is around $130.

01 Just N of the S line looking W.JPG (1263282 bytes) This is from the 003Y neighbors west corner.   Looking west from a few feet north of our south property line. You can see part of the loading area to the right in the picture. This is what the line up to the marker looked like 5/18/02 before the logging. Sorry for the poor quality.
02 Looking W down the S line.JPG (1447126 bytes) This is looking west from the 003Y neighbors west corner looking directly down the south property line.  In this area the loggers partially cleared along the line to use it as a hauling road to get to the loading area here. The neighbor to the south, 003Z had already cleared part of it.
03 Just S of the S line looking E.JPG (1476076 bytes) This is looking east from the 003Y neighbors west corner directly down the south property line.  The tree in the center of the picture with the flagging is just on our side of the line.

Between the two pieces of PVC you can see our LASER sighting contraption.

04 Looking E down the S line.JPG (1508254 bytes) This is looking ease from a few feet to the east of the 003Y neighbors west corner.
05 Looking W down the S line after whacking.JPG (1500857 bytes) This is looking west down the south line after doing some whacking.  In the center of the picture you can see the 003Y neighbors west corner we started out from.  Some of the trees in this area had been removed by the neighbor at some point in time.
06 Looking E down the S line before whacking.JPG (1519918 bytes) This is the 003Y neighbors east corner.  It is another 330 foot from there to our east corner.  Beyond the corner marker we have not whacked down the property line.
07 Looking E down the S line Cindy Whacking.JPG (1583819 bytes) Cindy has started to make a path.  to the east.
08 One of several trees that were not taken in the 20 ft zone looking E.JPG (1451387 bytes) One of several marketable trees that were not cut down along the 20 foot clear cut area. This is just to the north of the property line near 003Y
09 What a skidder trail looks like.JPG (1469882 bytes) This is one of the skidder trails in this section of our property.  If they had done this down the property line we would have been very happy.
10 S line looking E 330 ft W of corner.JPG (1420428 bytes) This is looking west from 003Y neighbors east corner.  We finally made it to our east corner.  The palmettos in the foreground were a #%^#! to get through.  We were really dragging when we finished up with this part of the line  We had previously  made a path from the east corner up to the palmettos. It was a couple of feet off from the line, but after trimming for about 50 foot to the east we were able to have a sight line all the way to the east corner.  This is a picture from 5/18/02 when Cindy was clearing from the east corner (the other end).
