The next day after the controlled burn started entirely too early. We had to head back to the land to make sure nothing was still burning or smoking. We hoped to be able to just sit, look and enjoy. There was still a little work to be done, however. It was a beautiful site after waiting so long to get the conditions right to burn.

We got out there bright and early, before the sun. You could still see some of the piles and stumps smoldering.
The burn did a good job getting rid of the burnable fuel.
It didn't get all the fuel, but it got most. It seemed to work better in the areas that we were able to bush hog first.
This is on the north side. You can see how the burn got the low vegetation but did not take out the higher vegetation. The heat did kill it back though. The broken trees are from the hurricane.
It opened everything up nicely.
Cindy went in after one of the smoldering stumps. A couple of well placed shovels of sand put it out.
They allowed us to include some of the brush piles in the burn. Some of the lighter pine had decided to restart in the night.
Some sand and ash shoveled on top put them out again.
A view from the center fence looking north.
