After much anticipation, Top Cow has finally had her calf. It took nearly an
hour to find her in the brush, but it was worth the effort. You can see the
secret that she was trying to hide in the pictures below.

Probably only minutes old. Mom hadn't had a chance to inflate her
yet. It seems that we now know the secret to easy birthing. Just have
flat calves and air them up after they come out, starting with the head.
(If you look close at the picture, you'll see that the calf looks flat.) |

After some inflation, mom takes her out to meet the herd for a few
moments while she gets a bite to eat. The other cow in the picture is
White Face, who does not have a calf yet. She seems very interested in
the new calf and spent the whole time introducing herself. She even
tried following mom and calf back into the brush. Mom had other plans,
however. |
